The video streaming service can be defined as an online source for series, movies, TV shows, and other types of steaming media. Such a service require fees per view or per subscription and is available now for Disney’s audience.
In 2017, Disney announced its intention to launch its own streaming service: a platform that is created to compete with other streaming service platforms like Netflix and Hulu. Exactly a year after its launch, Disney’s streaming service’s name was changed into ‘Disney Plus’.
Disney Plus excels other streaming service platforms in terms of the video streaming they provide. It includes exclusive videos in Disney’s library, including some sough-after animation videos.
On April 11, 2019, Disney gave a detailed presentation on its new service concerning streaming service, Disney Plus. The service costs $7 per month or $70 a year. Many films and series were announced to be available immediately at launch date whereas others were confirmed for the first or, at the most, second year of Disney Plus’ launch.
Disney also displayed a prototype on its new service that in fact looks exactly like Netflix’s but in a Disney style. During the presentation, Disney also shared a road map of the streaming services they provide including 25 series of its such as Snow White, The Little Mermaid, and The Mandalorian. Services Disney Plus provides
Almost 7000 episodes of TV series and 500 movies are now available on the service. Most of the content are related to Disney’s Marvel, Pixar, and other Disney properties. Every movie in the Disney catalog is available on the Disney Plus platform as it does not just include a collection of the greatest hits, but there is also other original content on the service.
The Original Marvel includes a range of series based upon Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch and the Vision, and Falcon and Winter Soldier. To our surprise, Villain Loki a TV series following The Avengers is also included within the works. What If? Is an another animation series featuring universe tales and MCU characters will be included in the Disney Plus content.
It is worth mentioning that many other original Star Wars TV shows also include the The Mandalorian.
The Star Wars series is set 7 years after Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi that will follow “a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.” As a side note, Pedro Pascal, one of the actors in the Game of Thrones plays the series’ title role. Its first season has already been produced along with the pilot episode.
With that in mind, the Disney’s successful wave also includes classic animation movies such as The Lady & The Tramp which came out in February 2018. Just like the case with the original movie, the remake is also centered on the two dogs which go on several misadventures through the city and finally fall in love.
The stars of the remake, Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux, are encouraged to join by Ashley Jensen, Sam Elliot, Janelle Monae, and Benedict Wong who voice their dogs. Actors performing live-action include Nicole Brown, Kiersey Clemons, and Thomas Mann. It hasn’t escaped our notice that the director of the movie is Charlie Bean. Another remake is The Sword in the Stone which was first introduced by Disney in 2015 before getting repurposed to premiere on the platform of Disney Plus instead of being theatrically released. The adaptation of White’s The Once and Future King represented King Arthur’s origins as the young boy who accidently met the wizard while he was drawing the sword as the prophecy requires in order to become the King of England for one day. A third remake of a Disney classic movie, Peter Pan, was announced to be theatrically released before the repurpose of Disney Plus. An adaptation of Barrie’s kids’ book carrying the same name of the 1950s animation movie witnessed its titular character whisking away 3 English siblings to his house in Neverland. On the island, the whisked-away kids that never grow up, a crocodile, and a some pirates are controlled and led by the corrupt Captain Hook.
After his success in 2016’s Pete’s Dragon remake, the moviemaker, David Lowery announced to direct the remake of the Peter Pan in cooperation with Toby Halbrooks. However, no date was specified to start casting and producing the movie before its announcement because Disney changed its strategy to attract the live-action movie to Disney Plus.
In light of what has been written above, it is worth mentioning that Netflix has announced its intention to implement a series of cancellations that in turn brought its Marvel series to an end. Many reports have recently indicated that Disney had reached an impasse in terms of discussing the series’ terms.
As a side note, all episodes of every TV series and shows are now available on Disney Plus platform. “The measure of a man is not how he gets knocked to the mat, but rather it is how he gets back up,” says Matthew Murdock’s Dad.
The existing of the first 6 movies in the Star Wars is not also certain at this point because Disney has sold its US broadcast rights of the movie to the Turner Broadcasting in 2016 in a deal that granted Turner Broadcasting the authority and control of the movies until 2024. However, Disney exerted efforts to get the rights back, but nothing has happened in that regard so far.
Following the Disney’s approach of programming, there is not any rated projects existing on Disney Plus. Any films or TV shows that change the limits of Disney’s audience is to be directly diverted to Hulu.
