Group Policy Settings To Download Multiple Files At Once in Windows Internet Explorer

When downloading multiple files from a website using Internet Explorer, Windows normally limits the maximum number of concurrent connection that can be made per server which in-turn limits the number of files you can download at any one time. This concurrent connection limit by default is set to 2 for Windows Internet Explorer 7 and earlier versions whereas for Windows Internet Explorer 8 the maximum number of connection per server is set to 6.

With these limited default settings, when you try to download multiple files, only a certain number of downloads will be active at any one time, which considerably increases the total download time of your files. So, let’s configure this connection limit and increase the maximum number of connections per server from the default values to a limit of your choice. (from 2 through 128)

Follow the steps below to set the “Maximum number of connections per server” to a number of your choice using Group Policy

1. Go to Start > Run and type gpedit.msc and then click OK.
